| The youth group participated in their 4th Annual Homeless Awareness Night. The night began with the youth setting up their "homes". They used tape to fashion the boxes into shelters. Once they were done, they went inside to receive a meal served by the Women's Fellowship of soup and bread. After their "soup kitchen" meal, John Badger, from the South Park Inn (a shelter in Hartford), told stories of the shelter and gave more insight into the problem. The evening continued with the youth working on 2 HIHS service projects. They prepared a mailing and made 10 apple pies. The pies will be frozen to be used for Thanksgiving baskets. Once all this was done, it was time to head to their boxes for a cold night of "sleep". During the evening and before Church service the next morning, coats and food items were collected. Over 50 coats were collected for Button Up CT and over 125 food items were collected for the HIHS food pantry! |
