Cowmingle
06/12/05

The youth group sponsored a new fundraiser this year: The Cowmingle. A grid was painted out in the field behind the Church and boxes were sold for $5 each. While the boxes were selling, cow tail candy was also sold. Children's Sunday was chosen for the day of the event and a potluck lunch was added. The lunch became the "mingle" part of the day.

Children's Sunday is a great day because it is a day in which the Church celebrates the youth of the congregation. The children run the service and there is a great slide show made up of photos from the entire year. This year there were even some baby photos of some so we could try to guess who they were. It was great to see the baby photos of Ned and Renee , Charlotte and Alec, Jean, and Bea. Les did such a great job putting it all together.

Ned and his cow arrived before service. As soon as she got into the pen, she announced her arrival with a big "Moooooo". The kids and some adults came running to see her get off the truck. It went smoothly and she adjusted to her temporary pen. We all went into the service while Ken Weiss watched over her. About halfway into the service, we get word that Amber (the cow) had escaped. We find her between a mini-van and the garage being held in place by Ken. It was too funny for words! Ned, Bruce Langevin, Rich Miller, and Ken corral her back to her pen. She had managed to jump over the rock wall. She came close to escaping again later on in the day, but Ken was onto her by then.

The pot luck went great. There were people sitting on blankets under the trees, mingling under the tent, and viisting the cow. The children spent time in the craft area making puppets, coloring cow pictures, and getting faces painted. Joan Aldridge walked away the Cowmingle '05 Champ. She took the honor humbly.

It was a great afternoon of food, fun, and fellowship!
