our April Newsletter:
It was wonderful to welcome our extended community into the new (but not yet completed) Fellowship Hall to share coffee, donuts and conversation on Easter morning and to see the promise of what it will become.
Thank you to all the painters and their countless hours of assistance, and especially to Andy Mackay and the Men's Fellowship for leading the efforts. While these efforts have saved substantial money, it has also been great for the congregation to tangibly add to the construction efforts. Landscaping will be another opportunity to contribute our efforts, and with the Trustees, we are starting to look towards some spring work days. We will keep you posted on this.
We also appreciate the congregation's patience with the condition of the parking lot during mud season. The Building Committee realizes that it has perhaps been sloppier and more rutted than in the past, but we do hope that this will be the last year that we'll have these concerns! The Committee discussed making short-term improvements, but decided that it required sinking additional money into the parking lot, and it would ultimately be best to bear with the inconvenience until the ground defrosts and conditions improve.
Some will have noticed that the patio had been poured, but then was torn up. This was a decision by our Contractor who was not happy with the initial results and wanted to make sure that they provided a great end product. When it is built, the patio will have an exposed aggregate surface which will dress it up a bit.
Dalene's is currently making arrangements to prepare and level the floor surface in the old Social Hall and the new Fellowship Hall to start setting vinyl tiles. The Music Room and Nursery will be carpeted.
A sprayed-on ceiling surface has been applied in the Fellowship Hall and will serve to dampen sound. We are still awaiting an electrical hookup and oil pump, after which a water connection can be made and bathrooms can be made operational. Praise the Lord! (This last sentence is an editorial addition by Pastor Denise.)
If you feel you are able to pay some or all of your pledge early, it would be very helpful in minimizing our interest payments. Thank you again! If you have any questions during construction, please do not hesitate to speak with the Building Committee (Jim Kenniston and Brian Byrne (co-chairs), Joan Aldridge, Ned Ellis, Steve Weir, and Andy Mackay).
