MINISTER OF MISSION

With gratitude to the generosity of Bob and Lynn Owens, we are searching for a part-time Minister of Mission at the Gilead Congregational Church. The Minister of Mission will be funded fully by the Owens family for one year and then generously supported over an additional four years. The position was envisioned to honor the life of Bob and Lynn's daughter, Kathy, who died last year. Persons interested in this position are invited to send a resume to:

Job Description:
The Minister of Mission will be responsible for the mission life of the Gilead Congregational Church. This will include both mission among our Church members and friends as we seek to care for one another in times of crisis and need, and also mission among the wider community and world as we seek to reach out and share the love and caring of Christ with our community and world.

Specifically, the Minister of Mission will:

  •    Serve as the staff and resource person for our Board of Missions, which typically meets the second Sunday of the month following the 10 a.m. worship service.
  •    Be the point person to be sure the needs among our Church members and friends (e.g. meals, rides, etc.) are coordinated and met.
  •    Assist in educating the congregation about mission needs among members/friends and in the community and world.
  •    Encourage and empower adult members and friends to become active in hands on mission work.
  •    Help to plan and coordinate all Church mission trips and Youth Group mission trips.
  •    Serve as a resource to our Youth Group with their mission work and assist them in planning and implementing mission projects.
  •    Support our Sunday School in their mission projects.
  • The Minister of Mission is a part-time position involving approximately 20-30 hours monthly and will be compensated with an appropriate monthly stipend.

    The Minister of Mission will report to our Pastor and will set a weekly schedule in consultation with the Pastor. Limited benefits will include Social Security and mileage reimbursement for mileage driven while working. The Minister of Mission will receive a biannual evaluation which will be conducted by the Board of Missions.

    The prospective Minister of Mission will have at a minimum a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field of study and relevant experience to accomplish the responsibilities outlined above. Necessary knowledge, skills and abilities include: knowledge of the programs and policies of the Untied Church of Christ, the ability to effectively communicate with large and small groups, and strong planning and organizational skills.
