Christian Education

Congregation members volunteer to teach the Sunday School classes as well as lead the Nursery. Older youth also participate by helping out the adults with their classes.

The teachers work in teams so that they can take turns teaching. This provides them the opportunity to also attend Church services. A curriculum is provided to the teachers as a guide for each class. The lessons are in line with the sermons, so the children and parents can discuss what was learned that Sunday. Nursery care is available to parents during the service. The children can be brought there before the service and picked up after.

Sunday School Offerings

The offering taken each week during Sunday School goes to support a mission project selected by our Board of Christian Education. Most recently, offerings were sent to Church World Service to support their Moringa Tree Project. Moringa trees are unique trees in that every part of the tree can be put to use-primarily for food and medicinal purposes. Our donation went towards the purchase of trees for people in need.

Offerings collected in another year went to support Foodshare. Foodshare is the regional food bank for Hartford and Tolland Counties and distributes about 10 tons of food per day to more than 270 local programs that feed hungry people. Foodshare recently issued an emergency call for financial support to help them process and transport large donations of food from the food industry that are currently being turned away. Our Sunday School offerings helped to get food to people in need!
